Hello, my name is Paul Cunningham, and I truly love Cape Dory sailboats!
Through my business, Run Aground Boat Works, I help move, salvage, and restore sailboats. My goal is simple: save as many Cape Dorys as possible and keep them sailing for years to come.
If you own a Cape Dory that has been sitting unused, needs more work than you can take on, or has become a financial burden with ongoing storage and marina fees, I'd love to talk with you!
Why choose us instead of donating your boat to a charity?
While donating may seem like the easiest option, your boat may not receive the specialized attention it needs. Some charities may not have the resources, equipment, or market access to move, store, repair, and actively sell an older sailboat. We will continue trying to sail your boat for you by moving it to our yard, preparing it for sale, and promoting it to people who understand and appreciate Cape Dorys. Our goal is to give your boat the best possible chance of finding a new owner and continuing its life on the water.
Want us to sell your boat?
We would move your boat to our yard, and the transportation cost would come from the final sales price. The average transportation cost is approximately $2,000, depending on the boat's location, size, and condition. A storage fee of $300.00 per month would apply while the boat is at our yard. Any specific transportation, storage, repair, or preparation costs will be discussed with you in advance. If the cost of moving and storing the boat exceeds the final sales price, we will continue working to give your Cape Dory a new life and a new home, but our commitment to you will end at that point.
We will actively list and promote your boat through our website, Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook groups, local sailing groups, boating forums, sailing forums, online classifieds, community bulletin boards, and other free listing opportunities available to us. We will continue to try and sail your boat for you by making every reasonable effort to find it a new owner.
Need to get your boat to a new owner?
We can provide a transportation quote to help make the sale happen.
Ready to let your boat go?
Depending on its condition, we may be able to take ownership of it and give it a second chance.
I understand that these boats are more than just fiberglass and hardware. They're a piece of sailing history, and I'd hate to see a good Cape Dory destroyed simply because it needs some work.
I salvage usable parts from other boats (not Cape Dorys) to help rebuild and restore the Cape Dorys worth saving. Unless a boat has serious structural damage, excessive blistering, or other major structural issues, I'll do my best to find a way to give it another life.
Whether that means transporting your boat to its next owner, rebuilding it myself, or finding someone who will appreciate it as much as you once did, my goal is to help your Cape Dory find its next chapter.
If you have a Cape Dory you're thinking about letting go, please reach out. Even if you're not sure what to do with it, let's talk!
You never know â your old boat might become someone's dream boat.
